Panel Members’ Website transparency statement

The information submitted here will be used in managing panel membership and meeting information related to the delivery of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029.  

This information includes name, contact details, job title, company name, travel information and limited special category information necessary to support participation (including dietary requirements, and any accessibility needs), for both the panellist and their supporting staff where applicable. All data will be deleted in accordance with the REF 2029 Retention and Deletion Schedule by 31 March 2030.     

We will process your information to facilitate the following related to panel membership and meeting management:  

  • contact management for panel members and higher education institutions 
  • maintenance of panel membership records, including publication of limited information (name, job title and company name) on the REF website  
  • meeting management, including setup, venue arrangements and accommodation 
  • dietary requirements and special requirement management for panel members attending REF panel meetings 

The information is obtained by UKRI in their capacity of public authority from an authorised submitter on behalf of their organisation. Our lawful bases for collecting or using personal information are ‘to provide services to carry out our public task’ as outlined in the UK GDPR.  

Collected data will be viewed by members of staff from UKRI (Research England), the Scottish Funding Council, Medr, the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research (and), the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland and external colleagues employed to support this work.  

All personal data provided to UKRI in connection with panel membership and meetings management will be managed in line with the current UK data protection legislation. Further information on how we use personal data, and how you can exercise your rights as a data subject, can be found in UKRI’s privacy notice.  UKRI reserves the right to publish and share anonymised summarised information with stakeholders.
