We are pleased to announce you can now submit expressions of interest to attend the People, Culture and Environment (PCE) indicators workshops. These will be used to co-develop indicators for the assessment of the People, Culture and Environment (PCE) element of REF 2029.
You can find further details of the workshops, the timeline and how to submit your expression of interest on the Vitae website.
In January 2024 we announced that we would use the extended timeframe for this REF to run a pilot PCE exercise. This will allow us to test the process for creating and assessing submissions using the PCE indicators under development.
The PCE pilot exercise and the PCE indicators project need to run in a coordinated way to maximise the value of both exercises. The creation of the PCE pilot has led to some unexpected complications for the PCE indicators contract and as a result the timetable for both projects has had to change from that originally announced in January.
- The PCE indicators workshops will now run from May until October 2024
- The submissions period for pilot Higher Education Institutions will run from November 2024 to the end of February 2025
- The assessment phase will run from mid-March 2025 until the end of June 2025
We do not foresee any delay to the broader REF timetable.
The process for Higher Education Institutions to apply to the PCE pilot exercise is open until 24 April 2024. The outcome of this will be announced in June, following discussion with applicants and agreement with the Steering Group. The application process for the pilot PCE panels will launch in May.
In redeveloping the timelines for both pieces of work, both teams have worked hard to minimise impact on our community. We are aware that holding some PCE indicators workshops in early July may create difficulties for colleagues in Scotland and Northern Ireland. We are working to find ways to manage this. The PCE pilot submission window now falls over the winter break and we have extended the window to accommodate leave over this period.
